BRIEF INTRODUCTION

For just 5 hours in driving from San Francisco, you can visit our national treasure - Yosemite National Park - a park filled with magnificent valley, great granite domes and peaks, waterfalls, giant sequoias, and spectacular high country.

If you have only one day to visit, you may see "nothing"; for just two-day visitors, you barely make to have a quick overview of the park.  To really appreciate the beauty of Yosemite, you need to allow yourself have at least 3 to 5 days.

An area rich in history and geologic marvels, Yosemite has a variety of sites you will definitely want to visit. A few of its most famous attractions are summarized below:

  • Yosemite Valley - Start at Valley Visitor Center for a short slide presentation introduces Yosemite's history, grandeur, and geology. For an easy stroll in an oasis of quiet, look for Cook's Meadow just south of the visitor center. Continue to visit Yosemite Falls, the upper, middle, and lower falls form the highest waterfall in North America (2,425 feet) and the second highest in the world. If you don't mind to take 3.5 miles hike to Upper Yosemite Fall, where you will be rewarded with spectacular valley views away from the crowds. Hike to Nevada Fall, Mirror Lake, and hike to the summit of Half Dome, then stop at Happy Isles Nature Center. In addition to sightseeing, you can also try any of variety of activities, such as biking, rafting, horseback riding, rock climbing.
  • Glacier Point, Mariposa Grove & Wawona - In south of Yosemite, Glacier Point is the place to see what has been called the most photographed vista on earth. From here, you can overlook Yosemite Valley and Half Dome. Driving south to Yosemite's other long-cherished feature, the Mariposa Grove, a area famous with its Giant sequoias that are the world's largest trees (measured by volume, reaching over 300 feet in height and 40 feet in diameter.) The best known of the grove's 200 giant sequoias is the  Grizzly Giants, whose estimated age, a2,700 years, makes it one of the oldest living sequoias. Then reach Wawona, site of a hotel, golf course, and other facilities.
  • Tioga Road & Tuolumne Meadows - Fewer people visits this area in northeast of the park. The road (closed in winter) climbs into an alpine world of snowy peaks, crystal lakes, wind-tousled meadows. Opened up to you is the magnificent views of the splendid beauty.

For those who don't prefer to drive inside the park, The park offers complimentary shuttle bus service to points in the eastern end of Yosemite Valley year-round, from Wamona to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias in summer, and between Tenaya Lake and Tuolumne Meadows Lodge.
