A near-perfect copy of a pyramid found in the Toltec capital of Tula, 80 km
(50 miles) northwest of Mexico City. You enter the temple through a forest
of square columns, all decorated with carvings of fierce-looking Toltec
warriors, and ascend a flight of stairs to a large statue of Chac Mool.
These typically Toltec sculptures show a reclining figure with a bowl on its
belly, perhaps to hold incense burners during religious rituals, or even to
receive the hearts of human sacrifices.
