The city of Chicken Itza was founded about A.D. 500, and flourished
intermittently until A.D. 1200, when it was abandoned for reasons unknown.
Chichen Itza means "Mouth of the Well of the Itza". Chichen Itza
is the largest and most famous Mayan city in the Yucatan.
