Summer Packing 101

According to travel books and organizations, packing too much or packing the wrong things is one of the easiest ways to ruin a trip. Here are some packing tips to help ease packing stress and enable you to relax and enjoy the vacations.
々 Pack light. After packing luggage, walk around with it, make sure it can be easily carried through an airport -- walk up a flight of stairs, etc. Breathable fabrics such as linen or cotton and other fabrics such s a coated polyester/nylon mix are light and can be packed tightly. Also, leave at least 15% extra space for items purchased along the way.

々 Pack clothing that can be mixed and matched. Solid colors such as black and Khaki work well due to their versatility and ability to hide dirt. Wrinkle-resistant and wrinkle-proof fabrics minimize the need for an iron.

々 Plan on inclement weather. Whether rain is in forecast or not, pack some type of waterproof jacket. Carry a space-savvy collapsible umbrella for unexpected downpours.

々 Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. It is better to bring traveler's checks, a credit card and an ATM card rather than cash. Change or withdraw money in $100 increment.

々 Secure toiletries carefully. To keep liquid spills from ruining clothes, double wrap all liquid items in reseal able bags and place in an overnight kit. Travel-size toiletries can be purchased in most discount stories.
