If applicable, a Schengen visa issued by a Consulate of the
countries mentioned above allows the holder to travel freely in these countries.

If you intend to visit only one Schengen country, you must
apply at the Consulate of that specific country.

If you intend to visit several Schengen countries, you must
apply at the Consulate of the country which is your main destination, or of the country where you will be staying the longest.

If you intend to visit several Schengen countries but do not
have a main destination or will be staying the same amount of time in each of them, you must apply at the Consulate of the country
you will enter first.

If you do not need a visa for the Schengen countries which is your
main destination, please note that an visa may be required for other Schengen countries. You should then apply for a visa at
the Consulate of the country of first entry.
The document requires for a Schengen visa as follows:

A passport or official travel document with a validity that exceeds
the intended stay of the applicant by
at least three months. Please make sure your passport has a blank page
to affix the visa.

Your resident card or valid visa for the United States, or I-20 with
the endorsement, or IAP66, or advanced parole or any other pertinent document from the
I.N.S. showing that you may
reenter the U.S. (Holders of B1-B2 visas must have valid I-94 in their passport and must apply
in person).

One application form, filed out completely and signed by the
applicant with one recent passport-size photograph, glued to the form. If you apply by mail, your signature must be notarized.

For Business Trip: (Italy as example)
A notarized letter from the applicant's U.S. employer (on original company
letterhead) that verifies:
- the employment status of the applicant;
- that the applicant's business trip to Italy will in no way be remunerated by
the Italian company;
- the intended period of travel in Italy;
- the complete purpose of the trip itself;
- the full responsibility for expenses, lodging, and return to the United States.

For Invitation:
Letter of invitation from Italian Institution/Organization: you must submit this letter if
you're attending a conference, seminar or meeting. It must include all pertinent information, plus exact
dates and locations and all expenses relative to the trip must be covered by the above mentioned
Institution/Organization.
For Tourism:
If you are with a tour, a letter from your travel agent indicating that you are
part of a tour, your itinerary and your hotel reservation.
If you are traveling independently, a statement concerning the purpose of your
trip, detailed itinerary, means of transport, confirmed hotel reservation and references.
If you are staying with a family or a friend, you must be also requested to submit
an affidavit from your host that he/she will take--for the specified period of time spent in Italy -- full
responsibility for expense,
lodging, medical assistance and return to the United States. Copy of the host's passport
and -- if applicable - his/her "peresso di soggiorno" are requested.

Proof of sufficient funds to cover the cost of your intended stay.
- Traveler checks, recent bank statements, notarized letter from the bank
attesting the applicant's financial status,....etc.
- Verification of continued employment (statement from employer regarding
position held,
length of employment, recent salary and duration of vacation).
If you are self-employed
or the owner of a Company, copy of your
incorporation papers.

Your original roundtrip airline ticket (or ticket to the Country of
final destination).

Proof of travel health/accident insurance may be needed if your trip
includes a Schengen country that requires it.

Return envelope. In order to insure a prompt and safe return of your
passport please provide a self-addressed prepaid EXPRESS MAIL envelope (U.S. Postal Service).
If the applicant is under 18 years of age, please present notarized consent of both
parents or guardian having the care of custody of the child.
Please be informed that it may take 5 to 30 days to process your
application, depending on the time of year during which you apply.
COST OF THE VISA: Please contact the appropriates
Schengen Consulate for current visa fee (visa fee may vary according to the fluctuation of the exchange rate and to the Country
suing your visa).
